Decimals & timing

Read decimal values and stop a counter strictly between two endpoints.

Decimal notation represents parts of a whole. Comparing decimal values lets a player decide whether a number lies inside an interval. Successfully pressing Stop also depends on reaction time.

Egg Timer shows two endpoints with strict less-than signs. Players need to stop inside the gap; either endpoint is excluded. A near miss can start a conversation about order and inequalities without treating motor timing as a measure of mathematical understanding.

How to choose

  • Egg TimerRead both endpoints and stop the rising counter strictly between them across twenty attempts.

A suggested discussion

name a middle value, then compare the stopped value with both endpoints.

  • Which digit is in the tenths place?
  • Is the stopped value inside, on a boundary, or outside the interval?
  • Why does stopping exactly on an endpoint not count?

Adapt this suggestion to your learner. It is not an implemented game feature or curriculum standard.

Egg Timer

Stop a rising decimal counter strictly between two endpoints during a 20-attempt timing session.

  • Compare decimals to one decimal place
  • Identify values inside an open interval
  • Count forward in tenths
