Math skills and prerequisites
What this game practices
- Add two dice values
- Find different groups with the same sum
- Compare the remaining options before choosing a group
Explore: Addition · Number bonds & target sums · Logic & deduction
Before playing
- Read the numbers 1 to 12
- Add small whole numbers
Getting started
Open Close the Carton from the Arcade and press PLAY.
A guest can play. Platform coin rewards require a verified account and a selected player profile.
How to play
- Press ROLL and read the total beside MAKE.
- Click or tap one or more open eggs whose numbers add to that total.
- Check the Selected calculation. Tap a selected egg again if you want to remove it.
- Press CLOSE THEM when the selected sum equals the target. Those eggs stay closed for the rest of the run.
- Roll again and use the remaining open eggs.
- The run ends when every egg is closed or the rolled target cannot be made. Read your remaining total, then use PLAY AGAIN for a new run.
TRY THE REASONING
Worked example
Several ways to make seven
- The dice show 3 and 4, so the target is 7.
- If eggs 1 and 6 are open, select them: 1 + 6 = 7.
- Eggs 2 and 5, eggs 3 and 4, or egg 7 alone could also work if they are still open.
- Choose one valid group and press CLOSE THEM.
The target stays the same for the turn, but your choice changes which combinations remain available later.
Scoring, success and round endings
- Your score is the sum of the eggs left open when the run ends. Lower is better; closing all twelve eggs scores zero.
- BEST records your lowest completed score on this browser.
- A naturally finished run after at least one valid close earns an eligible profile 80 platform coins. Leaving for the title or starting over does not finish the run.
Modes, settings and progression
Standard run
Twelve eggs numbered 1 to 12 and two six-sided dice. There is no difficulty selector or countdown.
Strategies and troubleshooting
- Look for a single egg and for two- or three-egg combinations before deciding.
- Closed eggs cannot be used again, so compare what each choice would leave open.
- The dice are random. A valid choice can still lead to a stuck carton later.
Classroom and home use
Suggested activity: Pause before closing a group. Ask pairs to list two valid combinations for the same target and explain which open eggs each choice preserves.
Questions to discuss
- What other group makes this total?
- What total would remain after this choice?
- Why is a score of zero the best result?
This is a teaching suggestion, not an extra mode or a promised learning outcome.
Play and progress
Guest play does not require an account. For shared arcade coin rewards, use a verified account with an active player profile. Game scores and shared coins are different; only confirmed platform awards update the shared balance. Follow each game’s guide for its own restart and resume behavior.
