Math skills and prerequisites

What this game practices

  • Calculate the answer to an arithmetic prompt
  • Find a missing value in an equation on applicable tracks
  • Use related facts and place value as later tracks unlock

Explore: Addition · Subtraction · Multiplication · Division · Number bonds & target sums · Place value & ordering · Equality & balance

Before playing

  • Read whole numbers and the operation shown
  • Start with the available basic track in the selected curriculum

Getting started

Open Math ’n’ Hatch from the Arcade, then choose Adventure.

Tap an unlocked stop on the map and press Play in its details panel.

For saved progress and coins, sign in to a verified account and select a player profile. A profile's curriculum is chosen when the profile is created; use the account's player selector to change players.

How to play

  1. Read the operation or missing-value equation shown on the question card.
  2. Work out the answer, then click or tap one of the four number choices.
  3. Read the feedback. A correct answer adds to your score and streak; a mistake shows the correct answer and breaks the streak.
  4. Continue through all ten questions. The next question arrives automatically after the feedback.
  5. Read the result, reward breakdown, and progress, then return to Adventure to continue with an unlocked stop.
  6. If you need to leave early, use Leave round and confirm. Finished answers remain recorded, but the unfinished round is not completed.

TRY THE REASONING

Worked example

Read the operation before choosing

  1. For a question showing 7 + 5 = ?, make ten: 7 + 3 = 10, with 2 left, so choose 12.
  2. In the other curriculum, 3 × 4 = ? asks for three groups of four, also giving 12.
  3. Choose the displayed answer 12, read the feedback, and continue to the next question.
  4. A later prompt such as 7 + ? = 12 asks for the missing addend instead: choose 5.

The operation and the position of the missing value determine what you need to calculate.

Scoring, success and round endings

  • A round contains ten questions and scores one point per correct answer, up to 10/10. There is no countdown.
  • Normal Adventure questions award ten XP per correct answer. Progress and mastery unlock later tracks.
  • Round coins include 15 for completion and an extra 5 for a perfect 10/10. The longest streak adds 1 coin at three, 2 at five, or 3 at ten consecutive correct answers.
  • The full reward can also include 75 coins per level gained, 100 for track mastery, and applicable daily-challenge bonuses. Check the separate lines in the result breakdown; these bonuses are part of the game’s earning rate.

Modes, settings and progression

Addition & Subtraction curriculum

Adventure begins with addition and progresses through number bonds, doubles, missing values, larger addition, carrying, subtraction, and borrowing as tracks unlock.

Multiplication & Division curriculum

Adventure begins with multiplication and progresses through facts, fluency, place value, larger calculations, division, missing values, and a mixed mastery track.

Adventure tracks

Choose an unlocked map stop. Its details show the track, rank, mastery, streaks, and best score. A fresh profile begins at its first track; later stops require progress.

Strategies and troubleshooting

  • Check the operation symbol and where the question mark appears before choosing.
  • Use a related fact to check an answer, such as multiplication to check division.
  • The four choices are answers to select, not a number-entry keypad.
  • Sound effects and haptics can be changed in the platform Settings. The selected profile keeps its own progress.

Classroom and home use

Suggested activity: Pause before answering and ask the player to explain one strategy aloud, such as making ten, using a related fact, or finding the missing value. Treat the game as answer practice; supply any demonstration or written method separately.

Questions to discuss

  • What does the operation tell you to do?
  • How can another fact help you check this answer?
  • What changes when the missing value is in the middle of the equation?

This is a teaching suggestion, not an extra mode or a promised learning outcome.

Play and progress

Guest play does not require an account. For shared arcade coin rewards, use a verified account with an active player profile. Game scores and shared coins are different; only confirmed platform awards update the shared balance. Follow each game’s guide for its own restart and resume behavior.
